Tom Butler

Researcher, writer and creative producer. Member of the Prize’s Board of Experts 2024

Tom Butler is a researcher, writer, and creative producer. His work engages with urban identity, critical heritage and built environment futures, explored through academic research, exhibitions, installations, film and editorial projects.

Tom has worked for a variety of cultural and commercial organizations, including Arup, the National Trust, the V&A, and the British Council. His writing has been published by the RIBA, UCL Urban Lab, the Research Centre for Museums and Galleries and elsewhere.

Tom is an AHRC-funded Doctoral Researcher with the Museum of London and Brunel University. His interdisciplinary research investigates the impact of culture-led development on sense of place. He is a Tutor and Associate Lecturer on MA Narrative Environments, part of the Spatial Practices program at UAL Central Saint Martins. Tom is currently based in London, and has previously lived and worked in Edinburgh, Hong Kong, and Shanghai.
