The “Shared Cities” exhibition opens in the city of Szczecin (Poland)

Philharmonic Hall of Szczecin

The exhibition is one of the events of the Eighth Westival – The Art of Architecture. The title of this year’s Westival is “City, a Public Thing”.

After being shown in Barcelona and Bordeaux, the “Shared Cities” exhibition, which presents the results of the 2014 European Prize for Urban Public Space, is now in Szczecin, Poland’s largest port city. The exhibition, which will be open to the public from 16 to 26 October 2014 in the Philharmonic Hall, is one of the events in the Eighth Westival international festival of architecture, the title of which is “City, a Public Thing”. By means of lectures, debates, workshops and exhibitions on the urban spaces of Szczecin and other Polish and European cities, the festival inquires into the role the city plays in our lives, especially after 1989. The ways in which the public spaces of different cities and cultures are conceived, and which spaces best encourage harmonious coexistence are among the questions being explored.

The exhibition will be opened to the public on Thursday 16 October at 7 p.m. in the main vestibule of the Szczecin Philharmonic Hall, with a brief presentation of the Prize by its coordinator Masha Zrncic. On Friday 17 October, from 3 to 4 p.m., she will give a guided tour of the exhibition, offering further information about these twenty-five examples of good practice in the transformation of European cities. Later that afternoon, from 4.30 to 5.30 p.m., there will be a screening of the documentary “Europe City”, produced by the Centre of Contemporary Culture (CCCB) and Spanish Public Television (RTVE), which presents the idea of the city upheld by the Prize.
