He is Professor of History of the Mass Media and Comparative Literature Director of the Human Rights Project of Bard College (New York).
In the domain of human rights, he has worked with the Soros Documentary Fund, WITNESS and The Journal of Human Rights. He is co-director of International Justice Watch, an Internet discussion group about human rights, war crimes, international tribunals, crimes against humanity and genocide. He is the author of Fables of Responsibility: Aberrations and Predicaments in Ethics and Politics (Standford University Press, 1997) and co-editor de New Media, Old Media (with Wendy Hui Kyong Chun, Routledge, 2005).
