Maria Topolcanska

Architect, critic and lecturer in architecture and urban culture. Founder and chief editor of archizine Fake Cities / True Stories – a learning tool on parallel realities in Central and Eastern European urbanity before and after 1990 member of the Expert Committee of the European Prize for Urban Public Space since 2012.

Maria Topolcanska is architect and critic, she graduated at FA STU Bratislava and Metropolis master in architecture and urban culture UPC Barcelona in 2001. She was researcher at the Slovak Academy of Sciences in Bratislava in 2003-2014. She is co-author of books Bratislava: Atlas of Mass Housing and Modern and/or Totalitarian in the Architecture of the 20th Century in Slovakia. In her independent research practice based in Prague she focuses on comparative Czech and Slovak studies in architecture, namely on critical discourses, education and public space after transition.  She has been member of the Jury for the European Prize for Urban Public Space in 2012, 2014 and 2016.
