Architect, lecturer at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia and President of the prize jury in 2016.
Trained as an architect at the Barcelona Graduate School of Architecture (ETSAB). PhD in 2002 with the thesis The Garden of the Metropolis, published in 2012 by Gustavo Gili. His teaching career has centred mainly at the ETSAV (El Vallès Graduate School of Architecture-UPC) as a lecturer in urban design and coordinator of architecture workshops and projects. Director of the master’s degree in Landscape Architecture (MBLandArch) at the ETSAB. He has given courses and masterclasses at numerous internationally renowned universities, including the Università degli Studi Roma Tre, Copenhagen University and the University of Pennsylvania.
In 1981, jointly with Joan Roig, he set up BATLLE and ROIG, ARQUITECTES, an architecture practice that produces construction, planning and landscape projects. Its work at national and international level includes a wide range of projects, all developed from the perspective of landscape and the environment. His theses on architecture and landscape have been presented at a wide variety of institutions, from the Architectural League of New York to the Barcelona School of Agriculture.
