Krzysztof Nawratek

Architect, professor of architecture at the University of Plymouth and a member of the Expert Committee of the European Prize for Urban Public Space since the 2012 edition.


Krzysztof Nawratek is a lecturer in Architecture, Master of Architecture programme leader at the Plymouth University, UK. He has worked in Poland, Latvia and Ireland as a practicing architect and urban designer, also as a visiting professor at the Geography Department at the University of Latvia and as a researcher at National Institute for Regional and Spatial Analysis, Maynooth, Ireland. He was member of selection panel for the Polish contribution to the International Architecture Biennial in Venice in 2012 and in 2014. Krzysztof is an urban theorist, author of City as a Political Idea (2011) and Holes in the Whole. Introduction to the Urban Revolutions (2012) and several papers and chapters in edited books. His main research interest lays in urban theory in the context of post-secular philosophy, he is interested in evolution of (post)socialist cities, crisis of the contemporary neoliberal city model, relationship between cognitive capitalism and urban form and urban re-industrialisation.
