Public Space as Infrastructural Socio-Technical Ecology

CCCB, 01/22/2026, 10 am - 12 pm

The closing session of the seminar Infraestructure(s) of the Master's program MADE. Ecology of Architectural Design in the Digital Age at the Higher Technical School of Architecture of Vallès (ETSAV) proposes a dialogue between Blanca Pujals, architect and multidisciplinary spatial researcher, Isaac Marrero Guillamón, anthropologist, and Amadeu Santacana, architect.

Starting from the idea that many infrastructures remain invisible until they fail or until the need for maintenance becomes evident, the seminar has explored the political, technological, ideological, economic, and cultural dimensions of infrastructures, as well as their role in shaping contemporary public space.

From a critical, experimental, and transdisciplinary perspective, the seminar has developed the notion of infrastructure ecology, analyzing how infrastructures are linked to the extraction, circulation, and transformation of energy, materials, territories, communities, and data. It has also highlighted both their vulnerabilities and their potential.

This session takes place within the context of collaboration between the European Prize for Urban Public Space of the CCCB and ETSAV.
