Associate professor in the School for Communication at the University of Pennsylvania

His research areas are cultural studies and communication technologies, in particular the relationship between communications and the transport technologies and the associated political implications. He is author or co-editor of the books Mobility Without Mayhem: Mass Mediating Safety and Automobility (Duke University Press); Thinking With James Carey: Essays on Communications, Transportation, History (Peter Lang, 2006), co-edited with Craig Robertson; Foucault, Cultural Studies, and Governmentality (State University of New York Press, 2003), co-edited with Jack Bratich and Cameron McCarthy; Secret Agents: The Many Changing Faces of a Pop-Culture Icon (Peter Lang, Forthcoming), co-edited with Theodore Bailey.
