Sarah Mineko Ichioka

Urbanist. Member of the prize jury (2010-2014)

Urbanist, curator and writer. She has a degree in History from Yale University and a master’s degree in Urban Design and Social Sciences from the London School of Economics and Political Science.

She leads Desire Lines, a strategic consultancy for environmental, cultural and social-impact organisations and initiatives. She has explored the intersections of cities, society and ecology in previous roles within institutions of culture, policy and research including the Urban Age Project, Tate Modern, Singapore’s National Parks Board, and The Architecture Foundation (UK), of which she was Director from 2008-2014. She has been recognised as a World Cities Summit Young Leader (2018), one of the Global Public Interest Design 100 (2013), an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects (2013), and a British Council / Clore Cultural Leadership Fellow (2010).

She has served as an adviser for many diverse projects, including the XXIII and XXII editions of Triennale di Milano (2019-present), the Resilient by Design Bay Area Challenge (2017-2018), and Water as Leverage for Resilient Cities Asia (2018-2020).

Her publications include Flourish: Design Paradigms for Our Planetary Emergency, with Michael Pawlyn (Triarchy Press, 2021) and Cities: People, Society, Architecture: 10th International Architecture Exhibition - Venice Biennale with Ricky Burdett ( Rizzoli, 2006).

Member of the prize jury from 2010 to 2014.
