Guy Standing

Economist

Professor of Development Studies at the School of Oriental and African Studies, London University, and co-founder of the Basic Income Earth Network - BIEN. Between 1975 and 2006 he worked at the International Labour Organization as a researcher into job insecurity and flexibility, and he is well known as the creator of the Decent Work Index. His main areas of study are labour economics, job market policies, unemployment, flexibility of the labour market, structural adjustment policies and social protection. At present, he is working on the emergence of the precariat as a social class and the need to advance towards an unconditional basic income and deliberative democracy.
