What are the essential elements for creating a collective metropolis? In this first session of the "Barcelona Demà" ("Barcelona Tomorrow") process, we will discuss the need to construct a connected, accessible, and inclusive metropolis.
How can the right to housing be preserved in a situation where the market is ever more voracious in a complex economic and social context? What role do community networks, both in-person and digital, play in guaranteeing social equity? What should a truly universal public transport network look like?
Barcelona, now in the process of becoming a great metropolitan region of five million inhabitants, is presently facing crucial challenges that directly and immediately affect the wellbeing of its citizens as well as threatening the so-called “right to the city”. If this is to be guaranteed, it is necessary to uphold a city in which notions like care, collaboration, social and territorial integration, and cooperativism become everyday practices.
This first session of the participatory process Barcelona Tomorrow, which is organised by the Barcelona Metropolitan Strategic Plan, curated by Teresa Bermúdez and Benet Fusté, and coordinated by Marc Garcia, consists of three panel discussions with local and international experts, and will conclude with a dialogue moderated by the university panel deba-t.org
