With a PhD in Architecture, he is a lecturer at the Aarhus School of Architecture, where he teaches Urbanism and Landscaping as well as carrying out research in public space and contemporary urban developments. His doctoral thesis (1997-2000) is about public spaces in the contemporary city, and his main areas of research are urban design, planning, and landscape in architecture.

Since 2008 he has been working in the international studio Gehl Architects with public space projects in New Zealand, Australia, and Denmark. Prior to this, he worked with the studio Transform where he took part in conceiving the Hasle Bakker project in Aarhus, among other initiatives. He has written numerous articles, texts, and books, including A City of Comings and Goings (co-authored with M. Provoost, Arkitektskolens Forlag, 2018), Gode Intentions og uregerlige Byer (Good Intentions and Wayward Cities, Arkitektskolens Forlag, 2008), and Formløs (Formless, Arkitektskolens Forlag, 2001).
