Samir Khalaf

Professor of Sociology at the American University

Director of the Centre for Behavioural Research at the same university, he has a doctorate in Sociology from Princeton University.
He has taught at Harvard, Massachusetts Institute of Technology and New York University. He has published numerous articles in a range of specialist reviews on sociocultural history, urban planning and post-war reconstruction. Among his many books are Civil and Uncivil Violence in Lebanon (Columbia University Press, New York, 2002), Cultural Resistance: Global and Local Encounters in the Middle East (Al Saqi Books, London, 2001) and Beirut Reclaimed (Al-Nahar Press, Beirut 1994).
