Michel Agier

An anthropologist

Research director at the Institut de Recherche pour le Développment and fellow of the Centre d'Études Africaines of the EHESS (Paris).
He is presently working in the field of reconstruction of identity among people displaced by war, and the new spaces for regrouping of displaced populations. He has carried out fieldwork among African and Latin American populations, focussing on the dynamics of social change, ethnic identity and urban cultural movements. Notable among his publications are L’invention de la ville: banlieues, townships, invasions et favelas (Éditions des archives contemporaines, 1999) and Aux bords du monde, les réfugiés (Flammarion, 2002).
