Bo Stråth

Historian

Emeritus Professor of Nordic, European and World History, and Research Director at the Centre of Nordic Studies at the University of Helsinki. From 1997 to 2007 he was a lecturer in Contemporary History at the European University Institute in Florence and, from 1990 to 1996, he was a lecturer in History at the University of Gothenburg. He has been a visiting lecturer in several universities and schools, including the Humboldt University of Berlin, the Stockholm University, the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales in Paris, the Collegium for Advanced Studies in Social Sciences (Uppsala) and the universities of Uppsala and Aarhus. He has also been a member of the International Social History Committee. His research interests are philosophy of history and the political, social and economic theory of modernity with particular attention to the history of ideas. He has thought and written widely on construction of the community and the factors that unite or divide a society.
