Srećko Horvat

Philosopher, author and political activist

Having spent the first eight years of his life exiled in Germany, he returned to Croatia in 1991, the year in which the civil war in Yugoslavia broke out. Today he is known as one of the most exciting voices of his generation, as he has written extensively about the Occupy Wall Street movement, the World Social Forum in Senegal and Tunisia, and the Zebaleen in Cairo. He has published 10 books translated into more than 15 languages, most recently What Does Europe Want? with Slavoj Žižek (Columbia University Press, 2014) and The Radicality of Love (Polity, 2015). His articles are regularly published in The Guardian, Al Jazeera and Newsweek, and he is a founder of both the Subversive Festival and the Democracy in Europe Movement with Yanis Varoufakis (DiEM 2025).
