Fran Tonkiss

Sociologist. Member of the Prize’s Board of Experts.

Professor of Sociology and director of the Cities Programme at London School of Economics (LSE), her main teaching and research fields are urban and economic sociology, with particular attention to social justice and inequality. Prior to joining LSE, she taught at Goldsmiths and City universities in London.

Presently managing editor of Economy and Society, she was also an editor of the British Journal of Sociology, where she is still a member of the editorial board. Notable among her publications are Space, the City and Social Theory (Polity, 2005), Contemporary Economic Sociology: Globalisation, Production, Inequality (Routledge, 2006), and Urban Inequalities: Divided Cities in the Twenty-First Century (Polity, 2018).
