Shared spaces talks with Gus Hosein, executive director of Privacy International and specialist in the conflict between ICT and human rights

Shared spaces interviewed Gus Hosein in May 2012, when he visited the Centre of Contemporany Culture of Barcelona (CCCB) where – together with Aaron K. Martin and Julia López – he spoke at the conference “(Not So) Smart Cities: Technology, Security and Privacy”, which was part of the lecture series “The State of Surveillance”. Hosein discussed what technological tools such as Twitter or surveillance cameras mean in terms of concepts of what is public and civil rights. In this context he warns, “there is confusion as to what public space is and how it relates with our personal space”.
