The architect Marcel Smets visited the CCCB to present the project "Passages_Passatges".

The architect and urban planner Marcel Smets was at the Centre of Contemporary Culture on 3 June in order to give a lecture titled “Contemporary Urban Passages” and also to present the project “Passages”. His visit was one of the activities related with the “Shared Cities” exhibition, which ended the following day. The architect Carles Llop was master of ceremonies for the event. Smets spoke about different ways of organising pedestrian flows in contemporary cities, showing a range of examples of urban passages from around the world and explaining how to stimulate better relationships among citizens with regard to urban space. He was followed by Meirelle Appel-Muller, general representative of the Institut pour la ville en mouvement, which is organising of the project. She commented on, and illustrated present applications of the project in different cities where it is already underway.

A number of other people also spoke. First of all, Rut Soto, councillor in charge of territory and urban planning in Sant Adrià del Besòs engaged in a discussion with Toni Alarcón, manager of the Besòs Consortium and Ramon Torra, President of the group of municipalities of the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona. Soto and Alarcón spoke about some of the goals of a series of possible changes to be introduced in Sant Adrià and in Barcelona, while Ramon Torra described his department’s work with regard to public space in recent years. Finally, Marta Serra and Adrià Goula came on to the stage to present the film "Passatges viscuts, passatges registrats" they have produced with Clara Nubiola, Núria Ricart and Pol Viladoms, this being based on a review of the constant transformations to which spaces along the coast between Besòs and Badalona have been, and are still being subjected.
