José Maria Ezquiaga

Architect and Sociologist

An architect and sociologist, José María Ezquiaga has worked in both the public and private spheres. In his research and his professional practice, his interest centres on the social and spatial scales that make up the city and the territory. He holds a PhD from the Polytechnic University of Madrid and a degree in Sociology and Political Science from the Complutense University. He has taught at universities such as the Polytechnic University of Madrid, the University of Turin, the University of Rome and the Iuav University of Venice. He has had a long professional career in the design of urban and strategic plans at the national and international level and has worked in cities such as Bogotá, Medellín and Buenos Aires, among others. He has held various positions of responsibility in the field of public management in the city of Madrid and has received multiple prizes such as the Gubbio Prize 2006, the Spanish National Urbanism Prize 2005 and the Urbanism Prize from the Madrid City Council. His many urban designs include the Madrid Centre Strategic Project, developed between 2008 and 2010, focused on designing a city ready to face the challenges of the 21st century.
