Worpole writes about architecture, landscape and public policy and his main interests are the design of new settlements, landscapes, and public spaces and institutions, among them streets, parks, and libraries. In recent years his focus has been contemporary design aesthetics and he has also been working with architects and garden designers on new forms of residential settlements for the elderly. He is Emeritus Professor at Cities Institute at London Metropolitan University.

He has also served on the UK government’s Urban Green Spaces Special Taskforce, on the Expert Panel of the Heritage Lottery Fund, and as an advisor to the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment. Moreover, he is a founder-member of openDemocracy, an online platform for international debate on issues related with freedom, justice and democracy. Notable among his publications are Modern Hospice Design: The Architecture of Palliative Care (Routledge, 2009) and Contemporary Library Architecture: A Planning and Design Guide (Routledge, 2013).
