Rafael Moneo Awarded the Prince of Asturias Prize

The architect receives the Prince of Asturias Award for the Arts 2012

Rafael Moneo has been granted the Prince of Asturias Award for the Arts 2012. This is an international award conceded by the Prince of Asturias Foundation for significant contributions to mankind’s cultural heritage.

The Jury, with José Lladó i Fernández-Urrutia as its President, has recognised the excellence of this internationally renowned architect in both academic and professional spheres, emphasising the fact that his work “enriches urban spaces with an architecture that is serene and meticulous”. Rafael Moneo therefore “leaves his own mark on each of his creations, at the same time as combining aesthetics with functionality, especially in the airy interiors that act as impeccable settings for great works of culture and the spirit.”

The European Prize for Urban Public Space was privileged in having Rafael Moneo as the President of the Jury for the 2010 award.
