Robin Celikates

Philosopher

Professor of social and political philosophy at the Freie Universität Berlin and deputy director of the Berlin Centre for Humanities and Social Change at Humboldt University. He has also been a researcher and professor at the University of Amsterdam, Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt, and Columbia University in New York. His main interests are political and social philosophy and critical theory, and his research focuses on issues of democracy, migration, citizenship, civil disobedience in democratic systems, the moral philosophy of recognition, and methodologies in political philosophy and social theory. He also directs the interuniversity research project “Transforming Solidarities” on migratory practices in Berlin.

He is the co-editor of Critical Times: Interventions in Global Critical Theory, associated with the International Consortium for Critical Theory Programs. He has authored and co-authored various books, including Global Cultures of Contestation: Mobility, Sustainability, Aesthetics & Connectivity (Palgrave MacMillan, 2018) and Critique as Social Practice: Critical Theory and Social Self-Understanding (Rowman & Littlefield International, 2018), as well as numerous articles on migration, democracy and protest.
