Peter Cachola Schmal

Architect and architecture critic. Director of the German Architecture Museum (DAM) and member of the jury.

He studied architecture at the Technical University of Darmstadt, where he also taught from 1992 to 1997. He spent the next three years lecturing at the University of Applied Science in Frankfurt. Since 2000 he has worked at the German Architecture Museum (DAM), first as a curator and, since 2006, as director of the museum.

He has extensive experience on juries of various prizes and awards, including the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture–Mies Van der Rohe Award, the European Architectural Photography Prize and the House of the Year Award. He also participated in the 7th International Architecture Biennale of Sao Paulo in 2007 and the Architecture Exhibition of the Venice Biennale in 2016 as general curator of the German delegation.

He has formed part of the jury of the European Prize for Urban Public Space since 2010.
