Architect and urbanist. Member of the Prize’s Board of Experts (2014-2018, 2026)

Jelena Prokopljević is an architect and researcher in the field of history of socialist, east European and Asian architecture and urbanism in the global context. Graduated from the University of Belgrade (1998), holds a PhD at the Polytechnic University of Barcelona (2006). Adjunct professor of History and Theory of Architecture at the La Salle University (ETSALS) Barcelona and of Urban Studies in the Asia Pacific Region at the Pompeu Fabra University. Lecturer in the Urban and Architectural History of Barcelona at the Barcelona Architecture Centre.

Author of numerous publications, both academic and for general public; invited lecturer at different universities: Paris, Oslo, Seoul, Bucharest, UB and UAB in Barcelona. Member of the experts’ committee of the European Prize for Urban Public Space and nominator of the Mies van der Rohe Prize for Contemporary Architecture; member of direction board of Arquin-FAD (association for Fostering of Architecture and Design). Her research on North Korean architecture and urbanism was included in the Korean Pavilion for Venice Biennale 2014 and she was the co-curator of “Aftermath. Architecture beyond architects”, Catalan exhibition for the Venice Biennale 2016. Grantee, with El Globus Vermell of the research grant “Premi Ciutat de Barcelona 2020” for the research on Constant’s New Babylon and its legacy in contemporary Barcelona.
