Architect, urban designer. Member of the Prize’s Board of Experts (2022 - 2026)

Hans Teerds is a Dutch architect and urban designer. He is professor of Climate, Space and Politics at the Amsterdam Academy of Architecture and a business developer at the Amsterdam based architectural office Benthem Crowel Architects. Previously, he was senior lecturer at the Chair of the History and Theory of Urban Design at the Department of Architecture of the ETH in Zurich (Switzerland). In his doctoral investigation, which he wrote at the Delft University of Technology, he used the writings of philosopher Hannah Arendt, to examine the public and political aspects of architecture. He is member of the editorial board of architectural journal ‘OASE’ and Forum, co-edited the anthology ‘Architectural Positions: Architecture, Modernity and the Public Sphere’ (2009, with Tom Avermaete and Klaske Havik), and wrote  ‘Levend Landschap, Manifest voor stad en land’ (2012, with Johan van der Zwart) and 'Space is Politics' (2025).
