Philosopher and essayist.
Daniel Innerarity (Bilbao, 1959) is Professor of Political and Social Philosophy, researcher at the University of the Basque Country, and Director of the Institute for Democratic Governance. He is also a Senior Fellow at the European University Institute in Florence.
He has written extensively on the cultural aspects of advanced societies and on contemporary politics, with particular attention to the concept and functioning of democracies. Among his most notable books are La transformación de la política (The Transformation of Politics, Península, 2002), which received the III Miguel de Unamuno Essay Prize and Spain's National Prize for Literature in 2003, and La sociedad invisible (The Invisible Society, Espasa Essay Prize, 2004).
In recent years, his work has focused on the social and political uncertainty of the twenty-first century, beginning with La política en tiempos de indignación (Politics in Times of Indignation, Galaxia Gutenberg, 2015), ideas that he further developed in Política para perplejos (Politics for the Perplexed, Galaxia Gutenberg, 2018).
He is a regular contributor to the newspapers El País and La Vanguardia.
