A landscape architect and civil engineer known for his interdisciplinary approach and his work aimed at addressing challenges such as climate change and the quality of public space.

In 2007, he founded Bureau Bas Smets in Brussels; since then, the firm has developed over 50 projects in 12 countries, notably the Parc des Ateliers in Arles, the Thurn & Taxis park in Brussels and the reorganization of the public spaces around Notre Dame in Paris. His work, focused on the concept of “augmented landscapes”, aims to create new microclimates and forge a renewed relationship with nature.

He has received numerous awards, including the Award for Urbanism and Public Space from the French Academy of Architecture, and the Aga Khan Award for Architecture, among others.

He currently combines professional practice with teaching as a Professor in Practice at the Harvard Graduate School of Design.
