He has taught in Harvard, Cincinnati, Mexico, Berkeley and New York, where he established the Barcelona-New York Chair and the New York Institute for Humanities.
He has written widely on aesthetics and philosophy (
Teoria de la sensibilitat, Per què filosofia, Ética sin atributos, De la modernidad), and has also developed a critical reflection on political issues (
El laberinto de la hispanidad, El cortesà i el seu fantasma, Nacionalismos). He obtained the Lletra d’Or of Catalan Literature and the Anagrama, Espejo de España and Josep Pla prizes.
