An observatory of innovative architectural and urban practice in Europe
Deadline for submissions: 26 March
A project promoted by the European Forum for Architectural Policies (EFAP-FEPA). with: The Cité de l’Architecture et du Patrimoine and Wonderland, platform for European architecture.

When facing ecological, economic and social stakes, Europe urgently needs to imagine new ways to be creative and sustainable.

Meanwhile, a multitude of citizen-based micro-initiatives are emerging and constitute a laboratory for the future European city; these initiatives ought to be known and shared.
Cross-disciplinary teams, as well as inhabitant associations, are proposing architectural and urban solutions that are evolutive, economical and free from normative limits, where legislation is evolving through experience. These initiatives show that Europe is unique in its diversity and the quality of the answers it produces in a context of
crisis; they also show that architecture, hence culture, can take its share of intelligent, sustainable and inclusive development.

The project is based on a bottom-up observatory of designed and realized projects, and aims at creating a vade mecum to be used by the public audience and that is based on three lines:
- A survey that allows sharing and highlighting the multiplicity of creative solutions, whether they are constructive, social or ecological.
- A critical analysis of some selected innovative projects that address deprived populations. Political or juridical tools will be drawn from these examples.
- Circulation and dissemination of these experiences, in order to create a knock-on effect through jurisprudence.
This observatory also aims at democratizing architecture, favouring know-how, while helping norms and juridical administrative frameworks to evolve.
