The Economic Crisis and Its Consequences for Architecture

Exhibition at The Architecture Foundation, London, until 9 June 2012.
Many people believe that the present situation is not a mere cyclical slump but a new potentially permanent set of circumstances. It is increasingly clear that this is a decisive time for the whole world.

In this context, the architects of the Powerhouse Company and the architectural historian and critic Hans Ibelings (The Architecture Observer) present the suggestive exhibition “Shifts: The Economic Crisis and its Consequences for Architecture”, which illustrates the different impacts of the new economic circumstances on architecture’s present and future.

Using traditional tools of architectural representation – diagrams, films, texts and models – they illustrate the relations between the economy, architecture and property. The show invites the visitor to reflect upon the consequences of social and economic change for architectural cultures and practices.

The exhibition content is complemented with a number of parallel events.
