El Raval: urban laboratory

  • El Raval: laboratori urbà
Itzíar González Virós and Oriol Bohigas discuss the present situation of el Raval
On 8 October this year, the architect Oriol Bohigas and Itzíar González Virós, architect and presently City Councillor for the Ciutat Vella District of Barcelona, debated the theme of “El Raval: Urban Laboratory” at the CCCB. Avoiding media clichés, the debate focused on the transformations el Raval has undergone in the past twenty years, the successes and failures of the policies carried out, and the most immediate needs of the present situation. The discussion highlighted the social plurality of the neighbourhood as one of the keys to its dynamism while also being one of the conditioning factors in the complex task of finding solutions to its problems. The debate was organised on the occasion of the launch of the CCCB Archive “City and Public Space”, which has now made available to the public the whole of the CCCB collection of material on urban issues.
The debate may be consulted at the CCCB Archive (Arxiu CCCB)
