Exhibition on the representation of architecture and cities in painting.
The exhibition “Architectural Painting: From Renaissance to 18th Century”, which is open until 22 January 2012, reveals the presence of architectural settings in painting and illustrates the historical evolution of the genre. The exhibition is organised into two sections: the paintings in the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum span the 14th to the 17th centuries, while the Caja Madrid Foundation shows works from the 18th century, by which time architectural painting had become a new genre with the city as its sole subject.
